ROBBERY!!!!

Yesterday we watched part of a robbery trial.  Although brief, we also experienced the courthouse and spoke with attorneys.  Write 8 lines explaining what you learned.  In addition, you must respond to at least two posts from your classmates.  Here are expectations for how to blog and how to respond to others blog's.

  1. Yesterday we watched a very brief case. Originally, we walked into the courtroom and I saw a group of people. Some of them wore badges. Others were in uniform. Still others were wearing business attire. The judge was present also. Upon walking in, they began a 15 minute break. Unfortunately for us, this 15 minute break was more like 30 minutes. So, as the teacher, I wanted to make the experience more enjoyable and the best learning experience it could be. So, I started talking to the people in suits and the officers asking what the case was about. I didn't realize that the first person I asked was the defense attorney though! She made a vague comment and walked away. Another gentlemen told us that we were in the middle of a robbery case. It involved some juveniles and it happened at the Harrisburg East Mall. I also saw a television screen that projected a picture of the alleged crime scene. I thought that the questions were brief.

    2. I thought the case was very interesting although we didn't really see much of it. I thought it was simply because it took 2 years for it to start.

  2. The case was very confusing because we didn't get to see everything and the case actually took 2 years to be brought up in the jury. I believe if we would have seen more of the case I would understand it better. I wonder how much time the man will get if he gets anytime because they said he didn't do anything but he was a accomplice of the robbery. He might be found not guilty. It was a good and new experience to me. -DAVEONNE Banks

    1. I agree. Two years is a very long time. Justice moves so slowly! I also agree that we didn't get to see much. That how it goes when visiting the courthouse. We get what we get. Sometimes it's awesome, other times there's nothing going on.

    2. What we got wasnt really all that interesting becuase 1) it was basically a empty room
      2) And aside from the 15 break. It wasnt interesting to me b/c i prefer action and intese arguments.
But i do appreciate the Trip

    3. I think they had implied that he probably could get charged with the fact that he was an accomplice. I'm not sure though.. -Anthony

    4. I agree, there really wasnt much to learn. I had a difficult time understanding as well! I've been wondering the same thing. ( how many years will the accomplice get? ) - MaiLani

  3. Yesterday, I experienced a real trial dealing with a robbery that happened about two years ago. Not much happened while we were there but we spoke with attorneys and gathered some information. The first attorney told us that during most cases, it takes about a year or so come to trial. The case dealt with a robbery that had taken place at the harrisburg east mall. 3 individuals were involved and one of them were incarcerated. We didnt see much, but we learned a few things. - MaiLani

    1. Mai Lani, What were the few things we learned? Did you know how long it takes to go to trial? By the way, that's not just for criminal cases. Many civil cases take just as long or longer.

    2. That was my first time being in real court. It's crazy that it took 2 years for trial.

  4. Yesterday we watched a robbery case which took place in February 2013 at the East Mall. There were 3 suspects involved and yesterdays suspect was finally identified. We talked to an attorney and he stated who was the defense attorney. We saw the witness being asked questions and there were many breaks being taken. The jury was going to decide what happened with him. It takes about a year and sometimes more for the case to take trial. -Anthony

  5. SO.... We saw pretty much nothing but the court setup. As well as the Jury, plantiff, prosecutor, judge, and plantiff's friends/ family. Then we had to wait 15 minutes for it to resume. Then we got to see, im guessing direct exam. from a witness. And we got to see what the case was about. Which was a robbery at the east mall back in Feburary 2013. Included 3 suspects and "Tyrone' ( forget the last name) was charged with being a part of the crime. Though he physically didnt do anything, he was with the others. So he was charged.....

    4. It definitely seemed different than from tv and maybe that was because we didn't see the full case. -Anthony

  6. Yesterday, we didn't really get to see and learn about that robbery case. That case was from 2013 and it's crazy that it took 2 years to settle. Normally a case takes 1 year to settle. I didn't know we had to get up when jury enters the court. There was a woman who was accused for helping the defended in doing crime or being there with him while robbery was taking place.

  7. Honestly I don't know what im talking about so as of right now I am confused. from what I heard it was about a robbery from back in 2013 and it included 3 suspects. I think that you all got to see just how the court room was set up and how things worked. I also heard 3rd period had a better experience than 4th did. The judge was active and the attorneys were also objecting and stuff like that.
