What interests you?

Tell me what parts of law interests you. While this book will not be the only resource we use, it will be an integral part of the curriculum for the remainder of the year. Look through our Streetlaw book and write a paragraph or more about what you find (or what you think you'll find) interesting about our Streetlaw curriculum.

  1. Well I like criminal law at actually because I love the intensity of it. I like being able to put pieces together and solve an almost puzzle like criminal act. I think it's most exciting to be going after someone for something that you felt they did, or defending someone who you believe is innocent. I think that this book looks very interesting. The first thing that jumped out at me was the marriage chapter. And the different laws and regulations that are different and the same in the states. I have already learned something already from the book. In some states FIRST COUSINS CAN GET MARRIED! Ick! I guess you learn something new everyday, and I have just learned something I didn't know.

  2. I think that Streetlaw will be pretty interesting. I hope that we can still continue to practice being lawyers and doing things like that, but also to learn a little bit more about the law, why certain laws are in place, and how to become a lawyer. I also hope that we can learn about the differences between local, state, and national laws.

  3. What really interest me about law and being a lawyer is the feeling of being in a courtroom. I love the feeling of everybody listening to what I have to say and all attention being focused on me. I think its the most exciting part about being a lawyer, especially a criminal case in the courtroom. I think I would get pretty bored if I was behind a desk all day doing tax law or social law. But I hope this Street Law text book will open up my eyes to new types of law and hopefully get me interested in other parts of it.

  4. I looked through the book and what interested me was how it looks like it goes deep with information about the court system. I see it talks about all the laws and i know apart of lawyers jobs is to learn all the laws so it will be easier for them to work with cases dealing with them because they have learned and understand what the laws are. It looks like it touches all aspects of laws and is going to be very informative for us.

  5. So far after looking over the contents of the book, I find Consumer and Housing laws & Family laws to be the most interesting to me. Typically because when I get old enough I'm going to need to know all of them and I want to get a better understanding of it before it's too late. I am NOT the one to get played by any sort of government or higher power and I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to my family or friends all because they dont have so much as a hint to their rights and laws that apply to them. Hopefully we can look at this section :)

  6. I think I will be interested in this book. I think so because while I looked through the book I saw how it talked about differnet crimes people can commit. I am interested in knowing about different crimes and in detail what the actually are. The book also talks about crimes that I didn't know what are crimes.

  7. I am really glad to hear theenthusiasm that each of you shared on the topic of law. And, I understand what you are intrested in and hope to help elaborate on your interest in these areas. It's obvious to me that our mock trial case either got many of you interesed in criminal law/the courtoom or helped to foster an interest that you already had in the criminal case area. I am glad you took the time to write thoughtfully. I will consider all of your interests as we move ahead throughout the curriculum.

  8. What interests me in Law is a variety of things. One of the first things that I like about it that it is the way to govern the country and it is important. It deals with a variety and problems and how to solve and prevent them; that's why there are laws in law. I am also in the job as a lawyer and that's job I hope to pursue when I finish Grad school because its exciting and fulfilling. Also MOST professions that deal with law, pay good.

  9. The intersting parts of law are being in the court room. I wouls serious do more in law if that's all that it was. I love law and order, but i know it's more than the courtroom stuff they show on t.v. Being a lawyer intels a larger amount of reading. I think it interesting when a a criminal is on trail for a crime they committed. I think finding a person guilty is a great feeling for a lawyer.

  11. what intrests me in the law book is basically the two types of it. Criminal and Civil which means that there is not only one way to go about what you do to a person whom is being put into trial. When you are in trial under a criminal case, "a guilty defendant is punished by either incarceration in a jail or prison, fine paid to the government, or, in exceptional cases, execution of the defendant: the death penalty". This is what a criminal would have to face if found guilty. With civil cases, "a defendant is never incarcerated and never executed. A losing defendant in civil litigation only reimburses the plaintiff for losses caused by the defendant's behavior". In civil cases the do not face the same treatment as a criminal case. This intrest me most because it shows that there are many ways to handle things not just one way to do so. ( :

  12. The thing that interest me in law is Domestic Violence, because its interesting and it catches my attention. Watching the TV show, Law & Order: SVU caught my attention in the Domestic Violence feild. Domestic Violence, I think is a touchy subject, but I like to learn about it because its sad and again catches my attention. Just catching the bad guy in the end, makes my day.

  13. The parts of law that interest me are criminal law cases generally. Although I don't like law too much, I am most interested in how a person could commit a criminal act and is not criminally responsible for his or her actions. I don't feel as though mental defect should always be a reason to excuse a defendant from a case. But that is what interests me.. Criminal and Juvenile Justice, as well as family law.

  14. Criminal law interest me because to me all their cases are different. With criminal law you have to take a different approach with every case. For the lawyers it will be different because every clients is different and so is their situation. For the judge it will be different because they have to make decisions based on the evidence provided and by the rules they must abide by.

  15. The parts of law that interest me the most is criminal/juvenile justice and family law. The thing that makes me most interested in these parts of law is the fact it is very physical. There is always something going on with these different areas and they're topics that all of us can relate to. We hear about things concerning criminal and family issues so it is an interesting topic.

  16. I love several fields of law but one that hits close to home is immigration law. My mother has worked all her life in the school district, and the district has always had immigrants come in and out the system. I've had to come to homes privately and see what those people had to endure. I watched people come here with literally nothing and try to build up their whole lives and those that they carried about lives. They often came alone and struggled with the cruelty of people and the ignorance of their words. I hated seeing these people threatened and laughed at. I hated seeing these people take crappy jobs and horrible pay. When I looked at their faces I felt pangs of guilt, and strokes of anger. I felt guilty for having so much and anger for not being to help them. So when I began learning about laws I felt an obligation to the. They never left my mind even now.
Another is leg. law. I love writing bills and debating them in open floor. I like thinking logically about bills and being the voice for those who cannot speak up. Most importantly I liked that there was no emotional connection. It was just a law and why it was good and why it was bad. clear, factual, and passionate. It was fun and yet exciting.
I guess I just enjoy helping people and seeing results in the communities.

  17. CHAREA SAID....

one thing that interests me in law was criminal justice. Shows that i watch such as criminal minds, relates to this topic. Criminal Justice locate in the book is under Criminal Law && juvenile justice. i learned more about this topic on the website http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-criminal-justice.htm. One thing i learned on this website that is not on the book was the meaning of criminal justice, which is basically criminal behavior. A crime is something one does or fails to do that is in violation of the law.

  18. The part about law that interest me the most is the fact that with a good enough lawyer even if you are "guilty" you can still be proven innocent. This to me is important because it shows that there are always loop wholes in any system that is being used. For example OJ Simpson and his case. Another thing that I like about the law is the fact that a person can be given a fair chance to prove their innocents at any point in time. For example in the shows when a person is caught he/she is not automatically seen as guilty they can be given a chance to prove innocents for example Kobe Bryant when he was tried for rape. Lastly the thing I like about law is the fact that when it is effective it puts bad people in a even worse situation (jail) this is a good thing.
