Brought a Body on Him....

Murder Was the Case...Out the South

Introduction:  Attending court is never easy.  You never know what case's will be available to be seen, where they will be in the trial, and whether or not the case is relevant.  For the defendant in a murder case however, there can be nothing less important then those things. What's important to a defendant in a jury trial is that they are given access to true due process.

Task: After watching yesterday's murder trial, explain and react specifically to your experience. Consider:
What did you see?
What did you think of what you saw?
Which side (defense or prosecution) presented a better case?
What concepts of a trial were presented and how did it better help you understand law...these could include:
-expert witnesses
-lay witnesses
-evidence
-heresay
-plea bargaining

BE SURE TO WRITE AT LEAST A 5 SENTENCE PARAGRAPH IN RESPONSE.

Then, react to two people's posts.

Grading:  10 points for a 5 sentence paragraph (or more) reacting to the question.
10 points for a thoughtful reaction to the posts of two other people.

  1. I seen a lot of things. I seen that the prosecution had a lot of witnesses. I think that was a good thing so the people can know different versions of the story. I think the prosecution presented a better case due to the fact of more witnesses. Some concepts that help me was when the judge was describing fact witness and the expert witness. Overall I think that the case was very interesting. I also think that the defense should of did better with cross examination.

    2. The prosecution did have a lot of witnesses and the defendant didn't. I believe that he was guilty.

  2. In the court case, we get to see four witnesses. One of the witnesses was girlfriend of the victim. She is a lay witness which means she can only tell the facts but not her opinion. She give information about the event before the murder. The defendant try to create doubt for witness but I believe he failed.

    1. I agree that the defendant did fail in trying to prove that his client is innocent.

    2. I agree because he really did try to make the jury doubt her as a witness but kind of failed at doing it.

  3. In yesterday's trial, we have seen a defendant accused of killing a man. The family of the dead man sat right in front of us. The father showed us his sons ashes. The court brought another prisoner into the court room to testify. He basically snitched on the defendant about knowing something about the killing. First day of trail they had 34 people in the jury and then second day of trial they broke it down to 12 people. I also noticed that the whole jury was white. I wonder why?

  4. In the criminal case the other day, a young man was accused of killing another young man. The plaintiff had two witnesses to testify against him which was the victims girlfriend and the defendants cell mate. Both pleas seemed liable. Although, in my personal opinion, the defendants lawyer was very unorganized. I think his questions were all over the place and kind of irrelevant to the case. He asked the cell mate questions about himself and nothing that had to do with the case. Also, when we were in court, I noticed that the jury was all people of the same race, which was white. I thought it would be appropriate to have multiple races or people of different personal backgrounds.

  5. Yesterday when we went to court I saw a man being put to trial for killing another man. I listened to more than one witness from the plaintiff's side. I feel like the plaintiff did a way better job at trying to prove that the guy was guilty than the defense trying to prove he was innocent. I also heard a inmate testify which was very interesting to me. I think that the man who was being accused of committing the crime should have had a better lawyer cause his lawyer was kind of not so organized and in my opinion didn't do a good job.
